Arts in Devon

This very much became the theme of today's edition of The Multifarious Mix
with guests galore to inform and entertain us. Because of a gap in the schedule, we started early and managed a three hour show!

Mandy Barber painted a lovely picture of the 2011 Dartmoor Arts Project Summer School to be held in the idyllic village setting of Drewsteignton from 24 to 30 July. For the price of a week's ticket, participants can attend up to 13 art courses run by expert tutors - with basic materials provided - and enjoy evening performances and lectures. Everyone gets together at the Drewe Arms for socialising and scrumptious food, included in the price. Bursaries are available.
Also, sculptor David Nash is coming to talk in April and, during the Summer School week, author Margaret Drabble is giving a talk. See Phonic FM's feature on the Summer School here
For full details of all events run by Dartmoor Arts Project see their website.

Geoff Stowe gave us his entertaining rundown on Films. Check out details of films at The Picture House and Vue in Exeter by following the links.

Matt Newbury from Exeter's Northcott Theatre recommended productions on there. Miracle Theatre Company's Beauty And The Beast From Mars
(24 - 26 February) sounds a real hoot with its out-of-this world plot, live music and technical wizardry. Tickets will soon be available for two exclusive May productions: Shakespeare At The Tobacco Company's Comedy Of Errors and a cult musical Spring Awakening. Lots more happening there: see the Northcott Theatre website

Phonic FM's Luch Caise-Gearg showcased violin virtuoso Tasmin Little's appearance with Exeter Symphony Orchestra at Blundell's School in Tiverton (Sat 26 Feb) - details here - and a performance of Vivaldi's Gloria at Powderham Castle on Friday 25 February. More info here.
See Luch's Classical Journey website and listen to his Phonic FM show
most Tuesdays from 10:00 to 12:00

We also broadcast Episode 3 of Paul Whittall's Playing Cards and Paper Clips

Meeting the Monster

Many thanks to Gavin for doing the show with me today and to our guests
Luch Caise-Dearg and Joe Sellman Leava.

Joe is presenting a one-man show The Monster at
The Bike Shed Theatre, a wonderful "alternative" venue in Exeter which showcases new and innovative dramatic productions and is also a great live music venue. Their bar has an award-winning cocktail mixologist running the bar. Currently the theatre has a week long festival on. Find details here.

We're back!!

The Multifarious Mix
returns as a weekly show
from Wednesday 9 February,
promising an exciting mix of global and local music and talk with guest speakers and musicians, guest presenters too.

Help shape the show!

We want to include live music. Get in touch if you are a musician who'd like to play on the show and talk about your music (or if you are not a musician but can suggest a musical guest).

We aim to have people talking about a wide range of topics of interest (e.g. local issues, environmental matters, musical issues). If you can help us further this aim, we'd love to hear from you.

Email themultifariousmix@gmail.com
or, while we are on air, studio@phonic.fm

Do listen in and tell your friends!
